The Pittsburgh Steelers made Big Fat Ben Roethlisberger one of the highest paid players in the league yesterday. Yes, you read that right, Ben Roethlisberger. According to the Post-Gazette.com:
Ben Roethlisberger became not only the highest-paid Steelers player ever, he's now among the highest-paid players in the NFL, and arguments can be made that he's No. 1.
Roethlisberger today signed a contract that will pay him $102 million over eight seasons. It includes so-called "guaranteed money" of slightly more than $36 million and a $25 million signing bonus.
Are good quarterbacks that scarce these days? OK, he had one good year and now he's worth one of the biggest contracts in the league? Does anyone realize that the Steelers lost all-pro left guard Alan Faneca to free agency? Do you really think the not-so-mobile (i.e. fat) Ben is going to have better or worse numbers next season? Are you tired of all my questions?
So this brings up the real question: Who's Better Than Ben? Here's ten players I'd rather have on my team before Fatlisberger:
1. Tom Brady
2. Peyton Manning
3. LaDainian Tomlinson
4. Adrian Peterson
5. Tony Romo
6. Alan Faneca
7. Richard Seymour
8. Randy Moss
9. Flozell Adams (Just for the name. See also: Willie Whitehead)
10. Kordell Stewart, Charlie Batch and Bubby Brister
And please don't bring up his Super Bowl win in an attempt to defend Big Fat Ben. His 123 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions didn't necessarily "help." I had as much to do with that win as Ben did. Can someone give me $102 million? I'll smash my motorcycle into my face if it'll help.

Big Ben didn’t have a good game in the Superbowl but the fact is he got them there. Let’s take a look at his list. I would agree with Brady and Manning but so would everyone else. No way would I take LT, he is soft and if he hang nail he wouldn't play in a big game so no, Peterson will get hurt in the future with his up right running style so no, Romo plays well in the beginning but drops the ball in the end no pun intended, Faneca is the best guard in the league but with the best guard that doesn't mean you have the best O-line, you must be a Boston fan to even put Seymour there so you credibility is gone, maybe Moss depending on if he wants to play or not, you joke with Adams is lame, I won't even respond to other 3 Steeler qbs, again lame joke. Let me end by saying even though you team was 18-1, your season was a failure.

Trent Dilfer put on a better Super Bowl performance than Ben. Steelers fans should've prayed for a trade. Without Faneca, he won't have more than 20 TDs next year.

yeah it looks like 12 year olds run this website...
whoever wrote this orginal story on ben is obviously just flat out dumb. my 10 year old sister can build and put together a better arugment than that. no facts or anything close to facts to support his opinion. you sound like a browns fan and their usual crying

"Wow. I can’t believe you guys are crucifying him and defending that tub of lard. The guy is no Joe Montana for Christs sake. Roth may be a slightly better than average QB but seriously….$102 mill???? Good luck with that Pittsburgh."
Ill take roethlisberger anyday... besides brady, peyton manning, or maybe carson palmer, i dont want any sh*tty qb like alex smith or any new rookie coming in to lead my team. pitt has a solid qb in ben and you are all fools for saying he sucks. 102 mil is a sh*tload, but let them do what they want. McNabb and Vick were also paid over 100 mil, and they both worked out well! im not hating on mcnabb, but does HE DESERVE ALL THE MONEY HE GOT?

you're all missing the big picture. he drinks like a champion. its advertised right on his shirt and that face doesn't lie. and we all know champions get paid. i don't see the controversy

im not gonna get into this for arguments sake, but REALLY? talk about OVER RATED f**king qb's, and you think tony romo is good? seriously? and faneca wanted out of pittsburgh, i doubt any money they threw at him would have made him stick around.

roethlisberger is the man and everyone who disses him is a fucking piece of shit and i hope u die

Ben is the 3rd best quarterback in the league without question. After Brady and Manning who is there? Ben is a winner. He won his first 15 games. He won a super bowl. His numbers blow Terry Bradshaw away. He deserves the money.

Wow. I can't believe you guys are crucifying him and defending that tub of lard. The guy is no Joe Montana for Christs sake. Roth may be a slightly better than average QB but seriously....$102 mill???? Good luck with that Pittsburgh.

um your wrong Roethlisberger did have a touchdown, a rushing touchdown, do work son
March frd, 2008 at 07:21 pm
dude, you are crazy. I suppose you you are going to predict that the browns are going to win the superbowl because they resigned anderson? get a life and a real job, hack writer
March frd, 2008 at 06:08 pm
obviously you're a moron. he was 2nd or 3rd in every major QB statistic last season AND he was sacked the 2nd most in the league. if the steelers ever get a line he'll be even more dangerous.
and what's this you say about only 1 good year? i guess a super bowl win, an AFC Championship appearance, and another playoff appearance with a division title is only 1 good season.
is this website run by 12 year olds?

You forgot Michael Strahan

The fact is he is the best out of the pocket QB in the league. His completion % after being pushed out of the pocket is unbelievable. I admit he can use some work while in the pocket but that is something that will come with time. Losing Faneca does suck but losing Ben would have been detrimental to the Steelers. C'mon have you sen Cahrlie Batch throw a football?
