I haven’t had to call in sick to work yet, mostly because if I can move my fingers up and down, then I can work.  But Joaquin Phoenix’s job requires him to do waaay more than move his fingers up and down.  Sometimes he’s got to go to parties…and…stand and stuff.   People.com reports:

Joaquin Phoenix was forced to call in sick to the Cannes Film Festival.  The actor, 33, missed the Monday premiere of his movie Two Lovers.

It’s called “Two Lovers?”  That sounds like a student film where the director put himself in it so that he could attempt to nail who ever he cast opposite him.  What happened to naming movies stuff like “Die Hard,” and “Die Hard 2?”  Anyway, here’s Joaquin’s excuse:

“Joaquin has the stomach flu,” his rep, Susan Patricola, tells PEOPLE. “He had his dog boarded, his tux in hand but couldn’t even sit on the plane. He did go to the hospital to get hydrated, hoping he could get on the plane but he didn’t stay there. He was so sick – and so sorry he couldn’t be there with everyone.”

Yeah, I bet.  I’m sure he really wishes he was there to sit through that crap and then listen to a bunch of people ask him questions about his “character” afterwards.  That’s a pretty decent excuse though.  I like that he threw in the details about his dog getting boarded.  When you call in sick for work, it’s the details that sell your lie.  Remember that.

I realize it’s not Christmas, but I just figured celebrities have weird requests for how they like to party.  Plus this was a way easier picture to photoshop.
