The sky is black. The Earth itself shakes. Panicked screams are now silenced as the citizens of Earth stumble in their attempts to evacuate major cities and urban centers, struck fully by the realization of what is coming. Thanos the Mad Titan has arrived. Though mankind has grown accustomed to the idea of super powered beings, nothing has prepared them for the embodiment of Death, and the wielder of the Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos represents destruction unheard of.
On the streets of New York, Tony Stark stands and watches the skies flood with the armies of Thanos. His demeanor is calm, but belies his intense nervousness. The upgrades to his Iron Man armor are formidable, but Thanos wields word-destroying power. Loki and his Skrull army were nothing compared to this.
The Avengers stand shoulder to shoulder- Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye. It is up to them to make a stand, to protect their world or die trying.
“This guy must be overcompensating for something,” a voice says to Iron Man’s right. The Avenger turns his head. The man next to him shrugs, his red and blue costume moving like flesh. “What? This is really over the top.”
“Doesn’t matter. Get me close and I’ll cut him down to size,” mutters the brooding monster leaning against the wall next to them, smoking a cigar. Stark nods skyward.
“I’m sorry, are we keeping you fellas from something?” asks Stark. Spiderman pretends to look at his watch. Wolverine spits.
“Nah, tin man. Just thought we should get this show on the road.”
“Logan does have a point, Tony. The longer we wait, the more innocent lives will be in danger,” says the scientist, Richards. His wife Sue nods agreement. Tony Stark looks around at the crowd standing with him.
“Alright. Just, you know, tell the cavalry where to find us when they get here. Johnny?”
“Way ahead of you,” Johnny Storm smiles his winning smile as his body ignites into flame. Stark and Storm ascend as one towards influx of Thanos’ army descending from space.
Thanos descends from the Heavens, born on a massive craft that shreds through buildings. The assorted heroes scatter as he targets indiscriminately.
“Flank his position. He can’t fight us all at once,” orders Captain America. Ben Grim and the Hulk rush forward, meeting the threat head on, Thing and Hulk deflecting the energy weapon assault with their bodies.
An engine roars to life, flames spit down the street as Johnny Blaze, the Ghostrider, barrels down a side street, the Iceman and Storm keeping pace.
Wolverine bounds forth, using the Hulk as a stepping stone to hurl himself at Thanos’ vehicle. Spiderman swings past trailed by Thor as he summons lightning and Gambit with Rogue and Colossus.
The heroes converge on Thanos’ position, Dr. Strange and Blade attacking from the rear with Daredevil, Cable and Deadpool. The Titan raises his gauntleted fist, Infinity Gems gleaming and an insane comic nerdgasm of a fight scene that you will never, ever see again in the history of film ensues for the following 30 solid minutes or jaw-dropping 3D insanity.
Yes it’s ridiculous, but it’s not impossible. Sony agreed for Oscorp to be featured in the Avengers part 1, but they hadn’t finished the design in time. Paramount can sit down with Sony, Fox and Warner and get all of these characters in the same place at the same time. The Fantastic Four, the X-men, The Avengers, Spiderman, Blade and countless others who don’t need an intro in the movie, but can be added just for this one epic battle with the promise that, one day, they could appear in their own film. And it would be the most awesome thing ever. The film could still focus on the Avengers and include the extras as back up to give audiences the kind of thrill no movie ever has or ever will again provide an audience. It will be literally impossible to ever top this, even if DC followed suit with a Justice League film, it will always be the second time it happened and never have the impact of including characters like Peter Parker and Wolverine who already have developed a following and a spot in our culture. Never could this opportunity exist in any other film ever, period.
But it won’t happen.
