For a long time growing up I didn’t get an allowance, but it didn’t matter because when you’re nine the shit you want to do doesn’t cost money. But when I got to be about 13, my friends were doing stuff that necessitated more than a couple bucks, so I just hung around the house. So my dad said “How much money is it going to take to get you to go somewhere else other than where I am?” And thus, my allowance started. Apparently Barack Obama really likes hanging out with his kids, because he doesn’t give them shit. People.com reports:
